Most of our heroes are still intact, but SOME of the people we hoped would shake our world in 2013 fizzled out by February. Among those who exceeded expectations are Eric Alexander who continues to defy convention and forge forward rebuilding Long Island from the infrastructure up, while engaging us to join him. Then too there are our County Execs, Steve Bellone and Ed Mangano who have both managed to breathe life into a moribund economy via the enhanced participation of the Industrial Development Agency offices. Long Islanders hadn’t heard much about the Agency until Anthony Manetta, Executive Director of the Suffolk IDA, suddenly appeared on the Network, and proactively reached out to local community business leaders. This is a big deal.

Very stiff competition, but we think that LaunchPad, Long Island is up to the challenge, especially when the Huntington Incubator brings their magic to Suffolk.

Governor Cuomo Rolled out “StartUp NY” at the Melville Marriott to a packed room-full of entrepreneurs–this incentive is designed to bring business to the State by ensuring that there will be no income tax or property tax for start ups. We at the Corridor think it’s a great idea, but some are less enthused. Let us know what YOU think, please!

Our unsung Hero(ine) is Kathleen Ferrel, of SUNY Stony Brook who manages to create, people and orchestrate amazing events like the CEWIT and AERTC conferences. Both of which offer tantalizing views of tomorrow.

This is the year we have to save the planet and protect the Earth. It is our first priority.
